February 17, 2014 (CHICAGO)

About 11:30 a.m., a student pulled out mace and sprayed it inside a classroom at Chicago Military Academy, 3519 S. Giles Ave., said Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva.

Nineteen students and one adult inside the classroom were transported to area hospitals, including University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago, University of Chicago Medical Center, Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County and Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, Roccasalva said. All of them are in good condition, he said.

The student who sprayed the mace is in police custody, and charges are pending against that person, police News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan said. The student's age or gender was not immediately known.

School officials had no immediate comment on the incident.

Classes are back in session, Roccasalva said.
