ABC 7 Eyewitness News spoke with Aja Evans' father.

25-year-old Aja Evans, Olympic bronze medalist was trained in Highland Park. Her family is overjoyed with pride for the Chicago bobsledder; she is a brakeman on the USA-2 sled.

''What was beautiful is the way she was going after it, she has always been a fabulous athlete,'' said Fred Evans, Aja's father.

Evans' brother who is in Sochi says his family has accomplished some impressive things in the sports world. He is an NFL defensive tackle for the Minnesota Vikings for the past eight seasons. He says his younger sister is at the top of her game.

Aja, a Homewood resident, grew up in the South and West Sides of Chicago. She was a track star for Morgan Park. Her athletic ability runs in the family, as her father was the first black collegiate swim champion and also coached at Chicago's first integrated swim club.

''If you are not disciplined and tenacious it is not going to happen, the short cut is doing the work,'' Evans said.
