The advisory is in effect from midnight until noon on Wednesday for all of the Chicago area, including Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, Lake, Ogle, Lee, De Kalb, Kane, DuPage, Cook, La Salle, Kendall, Grundy, Will, Kankakee, Livingston, Iroquois and Ford counties in Illinois and Lake, Porter, Newton, Jasper and Benton in Indiana. With wind chill, the temperature could drop to -20 or even -30 degrees. They could set a new low temperature record.
"Just a few days left in February, and we are paying the price. And there's no sign of any big change as we head in to March," ABC7 Meteorologist Mike Caplan said.
After the wind chill advisory expires, temperatures will hover in the teens for most of the week. Snow could fall late Saturday and all day Sunday into Monday.
"I'm a little annoyed, but I'm trying to stay positive. Once we have another one behind us maybe that will be the last one," Mollie Linn said.
Jonathan Buchta is a dog walker. Neither he nor his clients are thrilled about the return of arctic cold.
"I put a jacket on them," Buchta said of the dogs he walks. "They don't stay out very long. They don't like cold either."
Officials warn residents to take precautions to protect themselves from frostbite and hypothermia.
