Mom dead, daughter critical after Chicago shooting

February 28, 2014 (CHICAGO)

The critical 25-year-old woman is at Stroger Hospital. Police say she got into an argument with her 30-year-old boyfriend.

The young woman's mother, 46, tried to intervene.. Officers were called just after midnight. They found the 25-year-old with multiple gunshot wounds to her torso. The mother was shot in the abdomen and upper back. Both women were rushed to Stroger, but the elder did not survive and was pronounced dead at 12:36 a.m. Now police are looking for the gunman who ran away after the shooting.

No description of the suspect has been released nor any word on what sparked the argument between him and his girlfriend.

Danny Darling was engaged to the 46-year-old woman who died and says they emerged from their room around midnight when they heard the younger couple fighting. Darling says he tried to reason with the suspect when he saw that man had a gun. But to no avail.

"A friend of ours was here. He jumped in the closet. I jumped on the floor. My fiancee tried to close the door. Pop! Pow! He shot my woman's daughter. He reached around, kicked the door in. He shot my woman," Darling said.

Darling says his fiancee was still conscious but bleeding profusely when she was rushed away in the ambulance. That was the last time he saw her.
