The Route 66 Candy Shoppe in Waynesville is giving away free fudge to obese customers today. It's only for those weighing more than 300 pounds.
Since announcing the promotion on Facebook, some have said the whole gimmick is offensive. Shop owner Charley Dill says that wasn't his intent.
"We're not trying to make a statement or do anything to offend anyone, we just thought it was a way to invite people to come in and have a good laugh," he said.
The owner says this is just one of many promotions the store plans to offer to get people talking. The shop just opened in February.
