Study warns of high amounts of salt in cereal

You may think cereal is a wise choice for breakfast, but researchers warn too much salt in the ingredients could make it unhealthy.

British researchers studied more than 400 school- aged children and found those between ages 6-17 ate too much salt. Children 13 to 17 consumed more than twice the recommended amount, and 36 percent of it came from cereals and breads.

Too much salt in childhood often leads to more in adulthood, and that can increase the risk of heart disease and high blood pressure.

This study is published by the American Heart Association.
