Family and friends are mourning the retired boxer who they say died while protecting his daughter.
Neighbors say 58-year-old Michael Tingling was a popular figure in this Rogers Park neighborhood.
On Wednesday, he left a salon to pick up his 15-year-old daughter Masharah from the Chicago Math and Science Academy.
The teen says a man approached her. Her father told him to go away. Instead, he punched Tingling in the chest.
His death was ruled a homicide.
Police are questioning the man who punched Tingling, but no charges have been filed.
