March 20, 2014 (CHICAGO)

The elevator repair company employee, believed to be in his 20s, was working in a shaft in a building in the 300 block of West Illinois Street when he was struck by an elevator, according to Fire Media Affairs.

"The elevator moved when he did not anticipate it would move," Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said.

Firefighters pulled the man from the shaft about 10 a.m. and took him to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he is listed in serious condition, according to Fire Media.
