Funeral held for Chicago police officer David Harris

March 24, 2014 (CHICAGO)

The 42-year-old officer was killed in a car crash while on his way home from work. He had just finished his shift patrolling some of Chicago's most dangerous blocks.

Authorities say the driver of the van, 21-year old Shanell Terrell, was trying to escape Calumet Park police, who had attempted to pull her over.

Police said several bags of marijuana were found in the van. Terrell is charged with first degree murder and aggravated DUI.

Monday, however, was about remembering Harris' years of service as over a dozen police departments were represented at the funeral. A final salute was held for David Harris as his casket was carried out by his fellow Chicago police officers.
