War veteran says she was denied employment at Macy's

FRESNO, Calif.

Kayla Reyes says she interviewed for a sales associate position at a Macy's store in Fresno last month after a nearly year-long deployment with her National Guard unit.

Reyes says once she told the hiring manager about her service overseas, the questions kept coming back to Reyes' time at war.

Reyes called the whole situation shocking and wonders if her military service did her a disservice when applying for a civilian job.

Macy's released a statement, saying:

"Employing veterans is a priority at Macy's. Ms. Reyes' application for a position with Macy's is, in fact, still under consideration as we continue to consider the types of retail jobs that may be available."
