The town's board meeting included a ceremony to honor David Guerrero. On March 31, he intervened to help a female student who was being attacked in a dorm shower.
He also helped to detain the alleged attacker until police arrived.
"When I entered the bathroom, I saw the perpetrator. The victim ran toward me, I told her to run outside," said Guerrero.
Tavares Humphries, 28, is being held without bond in the attack. Prosecutors say he stole items from the dorm before attacking the victim in the shower.
