CPS turnaround schools list adds 3: Gresham, Dvorak and McNair

April 23, 2014 (CHICAGO)

Starting next fall, the Academy for Urban School Learning AUSL, will be managing the schools with all new teachers and staff. Students remain at the same schools.

The Chicago School Board voted on the turnarounds Wednesday afternoon during the board meeting. Many parents at Gresham Elementary School were against the proposal. Several spoke at the Wednesday board meeting.

"How do you think these children are going to react? Socially and emotionally when you come in and take what they know?" Angela Gordon, Dvorak LSC member, said.

AUSL currently manages 29 Chicago Public School schools.

"We know that change is hard. If it wasn't, it would be done more often. We understand this is a very difficult decision to be taken extremely seriously," Keisha Campbell, AUSL, said.
