The latest fire broke out around 5:45 a.m. in a detached garage in the 3200 block of South Morgan. Hours earlier, three garage fires were reported near 36th Street and South Wallace. No injuries were reported in any of the incidents, officials said.

The family of four who lives in the South Morgan home said a neighbor pounded on their door to alert them of the fire.

"I feel lucky because our family members are ok and nobody was injured," said fire victim Joanne Zhao. "I thank god my neighbor woke us up."

In the earlier fires, which were reported around 4 a.m., three other garages caught fire, destroying two cars in one garage and melting the siding on a nearby apartment building, officials said. A resident smelled smoke and called 911.

Fire officials are linking the fires on South Wallace together, but are still investigating the incident on South Morgan. Police have not taken anyone into custody.

"The fact that someone would set these fires on purpose and put people in danger, that makes me very, very angry," said fire victim Lizabeth Fernandez.
