April 24, 2014 (GLENCOE, Ill.)

Glencoe Public Safety said in a release that a Metra employee spotted the man lying on the ground around 6 a.m. Thursday, south of the Park Avenue train station. Police responded and found the man, unconscious but still breathing, south of Hazel Avenue.

The man was taken to NorthShore University HealthSystem's Evanston Hospital for surgery. Glencoe police said they were not yet able to speak with him about the incident as of late Thursday morning, due to his medical condition.

Police said the investigation indicates the man may have fallen and suffered a laceration to the head while walking near the tracks. Investigators said it does not look like the man was hit by a train.

Metra and Union Pacific officials are assisting Glencoe Public Safety personnel in the investigation.
