''Joy of Mom'' blogger Vicki Reece sticks around for After Dark, where she shares some inexpensive options for Mother's Day gifts.

Vicki Reece's favorite homemade Mother's Day gifts:

Mama Joy Journal
There's nothing quite like homemade gifts from your children. Make mom a "joy journal" by having the kids fill {a store bought journal or one made from scratch} with their own stories, pictures, drawings and art. This will be a keepsake mom will have on her nightstand for years to come. The most basic crayon scribbles, the first carefully lettered words, and heartfelt notes will be cherished.

Mom Coupons
Send mom an envelope brimming with beautiful + sweet coupons promising special time with her loved ones! A few examples: "Valid for a Walk and Talk Along the Beach", "This Coupon is for an Extra Hug", "Coupon for a Latte and Hot Coca (for their kiddo ;) at Your Favorite Coffee Nook". Little ones can color pre-designed coupons and older children can create their own.

Joy of Unplugging
What sounds like music to a mom's ears more than - ta da - NO music (or text alerts, beeps, notifications)?! On Mother's Day, everyone unplugs for the full day. All phones, computers and tablets are turned off and stowed. Give mom the full attention she deserves.

Mom Spa
Head out to the grocery store to pick up special ingredients for all natural, DIY recipes that will turn your home into a spa for the day! At your new relaxation station, include a scrub, mask and skin softener. Study up on some quick reflexology to really knock her socks off. (There are so many fabulous products available, be sure to get ones in her favorite scents!) And for all the mamas with little ones you can do matching mani and pedis. Brew a cuppa warm lavender tea with sweet (and heathy) little tea snacks.

Garden
Joy will bloom from all around when you nurture nature just as your mom nurtured you. Find either a planter or an outside plot of land to plant Mom's favorite things....flowers, veggies, herbs...you name it. Construct special signs and welcome others to the garden from the kids to make doubly sure everyone knows the garden's inspiration. (I have beautiful tiny handmade signs from an artist ~ that I snap and send to you.)

Thank You, Mom!
Find a beautiful empty glass jar and fill it with handwritten notes of "thank you mom because," "why you're the best mom" or "you mean so much to me because..." If your mom is 42, then write 42 love notes. One note for each of her beautiful years. Be sure to decorate the outside of the jar so your mom will know when this was given to her. This can also become a tradition and do it every year, or every mark of new decade. This will be a very special keepsake.
