2016 Chicago Auto Show cruising through final weekend

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The 2016 Chicago Auto Show is cruising through its final weekend. Thousands of people packed McCormick Place on Saturday for North America's largest auto show.

People are everywhere, enjoying all the auto show has to offer and comparing new models with the old.

"I want to see how they've changed my car that I have now," Sue Tonkovich said.

The kids' zone keeps the children busy, while grown-ups check out the special wheels they've been eyeing.

"The Acura RSX is the perfect car. I want it, and it's for sale too!" James Morgan said.

It's not just cars on the floor that are popular, but some familiar faces in Chicago sports drew a crowd too.

They swarmed the Mazda stand to see former Bears player Brian Urlacher and on the Toyota live stage, retired Chicago cubs pitcher Scott Sanderson.

But today is not just about cars and sports heroes, but real life heroes too, like retired Marine Staff Sergeant Liam Dwyer.

On his second tour of duty, he stepped on an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan, lost his left leg, and suffered serious injuries to his body. He underwent 50 surgeries.

Now, not only is he walking using a prosthetic leg, but he is a Mazda race car driver. He says he never gave up.

"For me to get this position was a lot of failure. One of the first times I went out and drove manual transmission after I was injured, I crashed my car and was back at it the very next day driving again," Dwyer said.

He is living one of his dreams, he says, and never did he imagine standing here today.

"You will have ups and downs along the way you just need to keep the positive attitude so you can always keep that dream in sight," Dwyer said.
