CHICAGO (WLS) --At a time when some companies choose to make their products more cheaply overseas, it's refreshing to find ones that insist on making what they sell at home.
One local company is bringing organization to your life and jobs to our community.
Jessica and Chris Chambers are negotiating room for baby. It's not uncommon for couples growing a family to start with closet space.
"We've grown into this space, just the two of us. And now we've got to find homes and reorganize with everything we have in the second bedroom now," said Jessica Chambers, a mom-to-be.
"I think people don't realize how much space they waste until they actually go through the process," said Tom Happ, president of Closet Works.
Closet Works has been in business for nearly three decades and the company is growing. The Lincoln Park show room will move to a bigger space at the end of the year.
The company's 60,000-square-foot factory in Elmhurst has already undergone millions in upgrades. Nothing is outsourced and the company's president says that is part of the reason for Closet Works' success.
"We manufacture it. We touch it the whole way through. We cut every job one at a time because we don't what shape it's going to be, what color it's going to be, what size it's going to be. And we feel the best thing to do is for us to manufacture it ourselves," Happ said.
From consultation to installation, the process takes a few weeks.
The Chambers say the final product is worth the wait. Jessica says her new closets are roomy, nice to look at and fit more of her clothes. Chris might agree if the space were split 50-50.
Who doesn't want perfectly ordered closets? But at what price? It runs the gamut from $600 to $60,000.
