Work begins on new McDonald's headquarters in West Loop

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday for McDonald's new corporate headquarters in Chicago.

The nine-story building will be located in the west loop where Oprah's old Harpo studios were.

It's a move back to the city for McDonald's. The company has been based in Oak Brook since 1971.

The headquarters employs about 2,000 people. The facility is scheduled to open in spring of 2018.
