Calif. student with Down syndrome named homecoming queen

FRESNO, Calif. -- A Los Banos High School senior is celebrating her latest accomplishment -- winning the title of homecoming queen.

Allissa Dawson has Down syndrome, but that hasn't stopped her from pursuing her dreams. Allissa was nominated to run for the royal title along with her friend Josh Bustamante, and they won earlier this month.

Allissa's mom says the competition was based on participation in several spirit days and the senior float, along with votes by other students. She says the school, students, staff and entire community have always treated Allissa great and included her in everything.
