Catholic school may close if money not raised by Monday

PROSPECT HEIGHTS, Ill. (WLS) -- A north suburban catholic school may be forced to close if they cannot raise enough money by Monday.

St. Alphonsus Ligouri in Prospect Heights has until 5 p.m. to deliver $400,000 to the Archdiocese of Chicago to stay open.

The school has already collected $110,000 toward that goal. Another $332,000 has been pledges have been promised by supporters.

St. Alphonsus' low enrollment led the school being targeted.

About 70 students are registered for next school year. The goal is 135-students. The Archdiocese of Chicago wants 225 registered students.
