CHICAGO (WLS) -- Mayor Rahm Emanuel is challenging Chicago kids to read 2.4 million books this summer.

He visited students at the Douglass Branch Library where he made the announcement and joined kids playing with puppets.

The event kicks off the mayor's annual "Rahm's Readers Summer Learning Challenge."

The eight-week long program is meant to help children learn during the summer break.
