Comedian Bill Murray played for laughs on pro-am day at the BMW Championship at Conway Farms in Lake Forest on Wednesday.

Bill Murray's role as Carl the groundskeeper in "Caddyshack" debuted in theaters 35 years ago, but the character still resonates with fans.

Murray has a huge following on any golf course, especially at the BMW Championship. Conway Farms in Lake Forest is very close to the Indian Hill course in Winnetka where he and his five brothers grew up caddying.

The movie was based on the brother's experiences as caddies. Brian Doyle Murray co-wrote it. Despite growing up around the game, this is the first time all the Murray brothers have played together in a pro-am tournament.

"It's a tough course, it's a lot tougher than Indian Hill where we grew up caddying at," Joel Murray said.

The Murray brothers are getting much of the attention Wednesday, but the pros take over starting Thursday. Professional golfer Jim Furyk played with two of the Murray brothers. He tied the PGA record for best score ever two years ago with a 59 on this course.

"I'm going to shoot a 59 every round, it's just going to be on one of the holes before I finish," Furyk said.

There were no records broken today, but there were plenty of laughs. Murray said he plans to be back in town for a Cubs playoff game.

"I may start, I may relieve, I don't know. But I'm working on a knuckler, I'm working on the knuckler," Bill Murray said.
