A New York City band wanted to see what happened if people would "do what the music say" as they were serenaded with song "Kiss the Girl" from The Little Mermaid. So, dressed as characters from the classic Disney movie, members of The Little Mermen took to Washington Square park with their instruments in tow and set out to create some romance.

Alexis Babini, decked out as Sebastian the crab, along with another band member dressed as Ariel, approached pairs while singing the familiar tune and sure enough, most of the time the suggestion of the song was enough to get romantic couples, parents and kids, and even strangers to share a friendly peck.

Babini told ABC that the inspiration for the stunt came last year after seeing couples in the crowd kiss when his band played the song at a show.

"I was filled with nostalgia for the young wonder of discovering romance for the first time," he said.

Babini says his love for Disney music has only grown since founding The Little Mermen and his dream is to one day become a Disney songwriter. In fact, one of his proudest moments with his band was when composer Alan Menken, who scored The Little Mermaid, along with countless other Disney works, attended one of their shows.

"Alan Menken's songs are incredible; beautiful melodies, complex key changes, and emotional nuances woven together in a simple way that is easy to understand," Babini told ABC.
