Earl Callaway, the longtime entertainment and fine arts editor of the Chicago Defender has died at the age of 87.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Earl Calloway, the longtime entertainment and fine arts editor of the Chicago Defender has died at the age of 87.

Calloway was a lyric tenor and performed in many operatic productions across the country.

He joined the Defender in 1963 using his background in music to become a critic.

A funeral service is pending.
