Could Anna and Elsa from Frozen be the long-lost siblings of another Disney character? The idea has been a popular fan theory, and Chris Buck, who directed both Frozen and Tarzan, has finally weighed in on the matter.

As he explained to co-director Jennifer Lee, Buck envisions Anna and Elsa's parents being shipwrecked off the coast of Africa and eventually giving birth to a boy we know as Tarzan.

"In my little head, Anna and Elsa's brother is Tarzan," he told MTV. "That's my fun little world."

The theory first got attention when the directors dropped a major hint during a Reddit "Ask Me Anything" session last year. When asked, "Where were the King and Queen planning to go when they lost their lives out at sea?", Lee had an oddly specific response:

According to Chris, they didn't die on the boat. They got washed up on a shore in a jungle island. The queen gave birth to a baby boy. They build a treehouse. They get eaten by a leopard...

This theory is often discussed with another theory that mixes in even more movies. That theory suggests the parents' ship sank on the way to the wedding of Rapunzel and Flynn from Tangled (who make a cameo in Frozen). Then, Ariel from The Little Mermaid winds up searching for treasure on that very same ship, as explained by bloggers, including SuperCarlinBrothers.

Critics of the theory have pointed out that the two films are set in very different time periods. Buck, though, thinks that what is most important is the fans' interpretation.

"If you want to tie them all together, then do it," he said. "That's the spirit of Disney."
