Miss Illinois prepares to compete for Miss America crown

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (WLS) -- Miss Illinois is preparing for Sunday's 2016 Miss America pageant and took the stage in Atlantic City Saturday to practice her song for the talent portion of the competition.

Crystal Davis, from Anna in far southern Illinois, is hoping to trade in her state crown for the national title.

"My Miss America platform is 'crystal clear driving eyes on the road' because I really think that it's important to advocate the dangers of distracted driving so that we can work toward zero deaths, not only in Illinois but also in, in America," she said.

Davis is competing against 51 other contestants. The women represent all 50 states, Washington DC and Puerto Rico.

The 2016 Miss America Pageant airs Sunday at 8 p.m. on ABC7. The Show will broadcast live from Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall.
