Roz Veron's Weekender for July 4th weekend

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A lot of folks are traveling out of town for the holiday weekend, but if your plans include a stay-cation, there are a lot of festivals right here to make your 4th of July sparkle.

4th of July Fireworks - NAVY PIER

You can get a double dose of fireworks at Navy Pier this weekend! A special 4th of July fireworks show will begin at 9:30 p.m. Friday. Then on Saturday, the regular Saturday night fireworks display will begin at 10:15 p.m.

African/Caribbean International Festival Of Life - UNION PARK 1501 W. RANDOLPH

It's an annual 4th of July tradition in Chicago! The African/Caribbean International Festival of Life is going on now through Sunday at Union Park! This family-friendly event celebrates the cultures of Africa, the Caribbean, Central and South America, Mexico and the USA - with over 100 acts on three stages, representing more than 50 countries!

Naperville Ribfest - KNOCH PARK, NAPERVILLE

Naperville's Ribfest has become holiday destination, with a dozen rib vendors, a rib competition and plenty of live entertainment and family fun, including a 25-minute fireworks display Friday night! Ribfest runs through Sunday.

Looking for some out-of-town fun? Head north to Wisconsin Dells! They've got fireworks Friday night, and free, live entertainment in the downtown Dells all weekend!

Bristol Renaissance Faire - I-94 AT RUSSELL RD. KENOSHA, WI

Near Kenosha, Wisconsin, the Bristol Renaissance Faire opens Saturday, full of 16th century merriment, music, food and games - and a knight in shining armor or 2! The Renaissance Faire runs Saturdays and Sundays through Labor Day.

And on the theatre beat, the classic Lerner and Loew musical "Brigadoon" is getting rave reviews at the Goodman Theatre. This magical tale of the mythical Scottish village of Brigadoon has just been extended through August 10 - it's almost like being in love!!
