Seth Meyers speaks at Northwestern Graduation

EVANSTON, Ill. (WLS) -- A late night host returns to his roots in Evanston.

Comedian Seth Meyers received an honorary doctorate at Northwestern's commencement ceremony on Friday.

He earned a bachelor's degree in radio, television and film from Northwestern's School of Communication in 1996.

He says one skill he learned in college has helped more than any other in his years on Saturday Night Live and now his show "Late Night."

"I realize that all of my Northwestern procrastinating had actually been practice. In fact, I wasn't procrastinating at all, I was propracticenating," said Meyers during his speech.

Meyers began performing improv comedy as a student at Northwestern, where he was part of the Mee-Ow troupe.

He joined the cast of "Saturday Night Live" in 2001 and has hosted NBC's "Late Night" since February 2014.

Meyers' connection to the north suburb isn't just through Northwestern. He was born at Evanston Hospital 42 years ago.
