Singer Joe Cocker dies at 70

Joe Cocker, the singer known for his cover of The Beatles "With a Little Help From My Friends" and "You Are So Beautiful," died at age 70 on Monday after a battle with lung cancer, ITV reports.

Cocker won a Grammy in 1983 for "Up Where We Belong," a duet with Jennifer Warnes. In 2007, he was awarded the Order of the British Empire by the Queen of England.

Sony Music Entertainment released the following statement on the singer's death:

"John Robert Cocker, known to family, friends, his community and fans around the world as Joe Cocker, passed away on December 22, 2014 after a hard fought battle with small cell lung cancer. Mr. Cocker was 70 years old."

Cocker was born May 20, 1944 in Sheffield, England, where he lived until his early 20s.

His international success as a blues/rock singer began in 1964 and continues till this day. Cocker released 40 albums over the course of his career and toured extensively around the globe.
