CHICAGO (WLS) -- Halloween is creeping up on us. If that sends chills down your spine because your kid does not have a costume yet - fear not.
Matthew Flores, customer relations and marketing representative of the consignment website Swap.com, came into our ABC 7 Eyewitness News studio to show us a few ideas for costumes you can easily make yourself and that don't even cost a lot.
Matthew's costume ideas:
1. Doctor
Materials Needed:
Blue or green scrubs
Toy stethoscope
Optional:
Other doctor toys
Dopp Kit (take one of mom's old purses and put a red cross or medical sticker on it)
Scrub hat and covers for shoes
White lab coat (or white coat for over the outfit)
Instructions:
This outfit is very easy and simple to make. Chances are, your child has acquired or gotten doctor toys at some point in their life. If not, consignment shopping for doctor toys is a great option than buying these toys new.
All you need is to take scrubs or any blue and green active wear, pair it with a white lab coat and play doctor toys. Jazz it up with shoe covers and shower cap or scrub hat!
2. Little Einstein:
Materials Needed:
Khaki pants
Plaid shirt
Bowtie
White lab coat
Lab goggles
Yellow gloves
Optional: Wig
Instructions:
1. Take an existing pair of khakis and a plaid shirt.
2. All you need is a white lab coat and lab goggles.
3. Add a few finishing touches such as a cute bowtie, yellow gloves and pens for pocket flair.
4. Complete the look with a wild wig or if their hair is long add hairspray, and your Little Einstein is ready to go!
3. Raining Cats & Dogs:
Materials Needed:
Poncho / rain jacket
Rain boots
Clear umbrella
Cat and dog stickers
Instructions:
1. Take a clear umbrella, you will need cat and dog stickers (you can find these at stationery stores or department stores).
2. Place the stickers on the clear umbrella, pair it with their favorite raincoat and boots.
4. Superman
Materials Needed:
Superman shirt
Blue sweatpants
Cape
Optional: tape for a different hero logo
Instructions:
By taking sweatpants and a superman shirt along with last year's cape, you can easily transform your little guy into superman. Superhero costumes are fun and extremely easy to make with items you already have.
1. Take an existing track outfit or brightly colored, matching shirt and pants.
2. Add colorful tape to decorate the outfit and make their favorite superhero sign.
Another option: extra fabric around the house can make a quick cape, pair with comfortable leggings, purchase a mask or face paint and you have a DIY superhero!
