Lauran Smith stopped by with food to talk about her event that promotes Black-owned restaurants in the Chicago area.

In honor of Black History Month, we took a closer look at some local Black-owned restaurants that are being featured in the first-ever Chicago Black Restaurant Week (CBRW).

Lauran Smith, creative director for CBRW, stopped by to fill us in!

Chicago Black Restaurant Week, which will be Feb. 7-13, was designed to create a platform for Black-owned eateries in the Chicago area to be recognized and patronized. There are quite a few hidden gems that we want to share.

Smith said she had concerns that Black-owned eateries were not very well known. Her goal in creating CBRW was to expose these amazing establishments to everyone.
