130 home from school after possible stomach virus outbreak in Schererville

SCHERERVILLE, Ind. (WLS) -- For a second day, a large number of students were sick and absent from a school in Schererville.

Students at Peifer Elementary have complained of a stomach ailment. About 130 were out of class Thursday. The principal says he thinks many are staying home just to be safe.

In a letter from school administrators Wednesday, officials warned of the possibility of gastroenteritis.

The school is also taking precautions, scrubbing down classrooms and school buses. The principal expects everything to be back to normal by Monday.
