ARLINGTON HEIGHTS (WLS) -- A rabid bat was found in an Arlington Heights home last week and the Illinois Department of Public Health warns to be on the lookout this summer.

Last Friday, police in Arlington Heights were called to a home in the 400 block of N. Haddow where a small bat was captured. Cook County Animal and Rabies Control turned the bat over to the IDPH for testing. On Wednesday, it was determined that the bat had rabies.

The IDPH said bats become more active in the warmer weather. In 2015, 97 bats tested positive for rabies in Illinois.
