CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Chicago Department of Public Health launched its annual awareness campaign to remind residents to get flu shots.

The CDC recommends every individual older than six months of age get a yearly flu shot that protects against several strains of the virus.

"Young children and the elderly are at greater risk for getting seriously ill with influenza infections," said CDPH Commissioner Dr. Julie Morita. "Fortunately there is a safe and effective vaccine to protect everyone from potentially serious illness."
