CHICAGO (WLS) -- Doctors confirmed Thursday that the child being monitored for Ebola at the University of Chicago Hospital has tested negative for the virus.

Doctors say the patient was discharged after tests results from the Centers for Disease Control confirmed a negative result for Ebola.

The child was originally put into isolation for monitoring when she threw up on a flight originating from Liberia travelling to O'Hare International Airport. Following protocols, she was initially evaluated at Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago and then transferred to the University of Chicago Comer's Children's Hospital.

Hospital officials also said the events this week "demonstrated the readiness of the University of Chicago Medical Center to participate as a resource facility for the city."
