Fitbit is the first fitness device that has been used to diagnose a patient, providing doctors with crucial information when their patient is unable to do so.

CAMDEN, N.J. -- Doctors in New Jersey say a Fitbit may have saved a patient's life.

First responders rushed the 42-year-old man to a hospital in Camden after he suffered a seizure. Doctors looked at his Fitbit app, then discovered he had a more serious problem.

The device recorded an episode of atrial fibrillation hours before the seizure.

The data helped doctors determine the patient needed an electrical shock to get his heart rate back to normal.

The case was reported in the journal, 'Annals of Emergency Medicine'.
