CHICAGO (WLS) -- Senator Dick Durbin is among the lawmakers calling for the FDA to ban powered caffeine, saying it can have deadly consequences.

Just one teaspoon of pure caffeine is the same as 28 cups of coffee.

The FDA has warned about its risk, saying it can cause rapid or irregular heartbeat, seizures and death.

Many online stores stopped selling bulk powdered caffeine after the warning came out.
