According to a recent study by the Cleveland Clinic, the odds of surviving a heart attack may be greater if you are married.

The study found that your odds may improve if you are married as opposed to those who are single or divorced.

Doctor Steven Nissen says this is a recurring theme in cardiology and cardiac surgery.

"Having someone around who you're comfortable with and who has been your lifelong partner can help to calm patients down and help them to feel more secure. And that's good when the heart is healing," Nissen said.

Doctor Nissen says the calming effect of marriage reduces anxiety and stress, two factors that can cause cardiovascular complications.
