Newsviews: State of obesity report
We've heard that obesity is on the rise, a new report puts that statement into perspective.
Illinois ranks 25th in the nation with an obesity rate of 29.4 percent. The state comes in 9th for adolescent obesity, with 20 percent of Illinois children ages 10 to 17, in the obese category.
Those are the findings from the annual state of obesity report done by the Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Elissa Bassler is the CEO of the Illinois Public Health Institute and the executive director of the Illinois Alliance to Prevent Obesity. She joined us on Newsviews to talk more about this report and the challenges of fighting obesity.
