Red Cross holds drive in Chicago after blood shortage

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The American Red Cross has issued an emergency call for blood and platelets after blood donations have fallen short.

A blood drive is scheduled for Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Red Cross regional headquarters at 2200 W. Harrison St., Chicago.

Donations dropped due to people going on summer vacation and not donating.
