Riding to find cure for Friedreich's ataxia
FARA invites everyone to their 5th Annual rideATAXIA Chicago event.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Friedrich's Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA) invites families, cyclists, and everyone else to their 5th Annual rideATAXIA Chicago event on July 24, 2016. The multi-route cycling fundraiser benefits FARA , a non-profit dedicated to research leading to treatments and a cure for Friedreich's ataxia. Symptoms of the disease usually start between the ages of 5 and 18, Over time, Friedreich's ataxia causes a loss of coordination and muscle strength. Most young people with FA require mobility aids such as a cane, walker, or wheelchair by their teens or early 20s. FA can also cause life-threatening heart conditions, diabetes, and severe scoliosis.

Celebrating its 5th year, rideATAXIA Chicago kicks off at Channahon Central Park on Sunday, July 24, 2016 and offers 4, 12, 27, and 50 mile cycling routes on scenic country roads and a delicious post-ride lunch prepared by Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba's Italian Grill, and Bonefish Grill. rideAtaxia Chicago Planning Committee Members Carli and Paula Hook joined ABC 7 Eyewitness News to talk about the upcoming event.
