Primary immunodeficiency disease affects 250,000 people in the U.S.

WHEATON, Ill. (WLS) -- Primary immunodeficiency disease affects 250,000 people in the U.S. who are born with an immune system either compromised or absent.

Without an immune system, the risk of serious infections can pose a deadly threat. There are more than 200 types of PI diseases, but many people still go undetected for the disease.

That's why the Immune Deficiency Foundation is hosting its second annual IDF Walk for Primary Immunodeficiency on Sunday, Oct. 25 at Cantigny Park, in Wheaton, lll.

The one mile walk will serve as an opportunity for patients, their families, their supporters and the general public to raise funds to support IDF and awareness about primary immunodeficiency diseases.

Robin and Reed Bettenhausen joined ABC7 Eyewitness News live from Cantigny Park before they walked in the event.
