What the SPF?!

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Most Americans are a bit confused about sunscreen labels, according to a Northwestern University research study.

Forty-three percent of those surveyed understood the definition of sun factor protection while just 7-percent knew what to look for in a sunscreen to ward off early skin aging.

Researchers suggest using SPF 30 or higher to keep sun rays away that promote aging and skin cancer. Also, look for sunscreen that includes "broad spectrum protection."

The study was published in the journal JAMA Dermatology.
