WARRENVILLE, Ill. (WLS) -- The cold weather might make you want to stay inside, but you might want to reconsider for fun outside events. The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County's "Hard Water Classic" ice fishing tournament is happening at the Silver Lake at Blackwell Forest Preserve on Jan. 10. Hundreds of ice anglers of all ages are part of this competition.
Jay Johnson, manager of Site Operations - West Division, and Justin Frederick, manager of Site Operations - East Division, both with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, joined us live from the tournament site during our weekend morning news to tell us all about this fun event (http://dupageforest.com/HWClassic/).
The top three catches of largemouth bass, bluegill and crappie get gift cards of $100, $75 and $60 to local sporting-goods stores. The angler with the largest fish overall wins a gas-powered auger. Registrants can also win door prizes, including ice shelters, rod-and-reel combinations, tip-ups and other ice fishing gear.
