Air conditioning repair costs skyrocketing
If you?re looking to keep your home cool during the dog days of summer, you may notice higher costs if you need any air conditioning repairs.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- If you're looking to keep your home cool during the dog days of summer, you may notice higher costs if you need any air conditioning repairs. R22, also known as Freon, is being phased out by the Environmental Protection Agency because it could be harmful to the ozone layer. Production of Freon has dropped by 90%, and will be prohibited by 2020. Because the refrigerant is declining in availability, costs are rising. Experts suggest replacing your old air conditioning system with a more environmentally friendly R410A refrigerant. John Romano, a senior technician from Comfort Masters Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning, joined ABC 7 Eyewitness News to discuss the reasons from moving away from Freon, and how you can keep costs down.
