CHICAGO (WLS) -- Navy Pier is in full bloom already! The Chicago Flower Show runs until March 22, 2015.

Experts are there to answer questions about spring gardening, like snow mold and when to plant.

Snow mold is a fungal disease that shows up on lawns after the snow melt.

Gardening experts recommend leaving the lawn alone until the soils dry out and the soil temperature rises. Snow Mold is completely controlled by temperature.

As it increases, the fungus is inactivated. The grass plants will outgrow any damage. The worst thing to do is to rake it while it is still dormant. Wait 2-3 weeks, and when the forsythia shrubs are in bloom, apply a spring fertilizer. After two more weeks, assess if seed needs to be applied to areas that have not filled in.

Spring annuals, like pansies and primroses, can be planted as the ground is thawed and can be dug; and, as soon as the garden centers get the plants into stock.
