Rhymefest robbed at gunpoint in Chicago, tweets about it

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago hip hop artist Che 'Rhymefest' Smith was robbed at gunpoint early Saturday in Chicago, according to his Twitter account.

In a series of tweets which recounted the incident, Smith - who lives in Chicago - said: "You were gonna shoot me in the face for a wallet, I had the power to give you a job!" He later told ABC7 that he wants young people to know that they can come to him for help with getting a job, instead of resorting to crime.

At about 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Smith was sitting in his car at East 43rd Street and South Cottage Grove Avenue on the city's South Side when someone got into his car and put a gun to his head. He threatened to kill him and demanded his wallet, according to his Twitter video.

Smith said the wallet only contained $3 and his identification.

He also tweeted: "I defend you against police brutality. I work on your behalf you robbed me."

Smith posted a Twitter video that was apparently recorded while he was reporting the incident at a Chicago police station. In the video, he is audibly frustrated with police and captioned the video: "You wonder we (sic) don't report crimes? The police treated me disgustingly."

Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi tweeted back to Smith and apologized. Guglielmi said, "disappointing to say the least. On behalf of CPD, I apologize for how you were treated. We will be addressing this today."
