CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man was forced out of his vehicle at gunpoint and shot in the leg during a carjacking late Thursday night on Chicago's South Side, police said.

The 23-year-old victim was sitting in the driver's seat of a parked car with another man in the 400-block of West Winneconna Parkway near the Auburn Park Lagoon in the city's Gresham neighborhood around 11:30 p.m.

Police said that's when two armed men got out of a nearby blue sedan and forced both men out of the car. They demanded the vehicle and opened fire. The suspects then took off in the victim's car.

The 23-year-old man was transported to St. Bernard Hospital, where his condition stabilized. He is expected to be OK. Police did not say whether the other man was injured.

The carjacking and shooting remain under investigation. Police did not release a description of the suspects. No one is in custody.
