1 dead, 5 injured in North Ave. car crash

CHICAGO (WLS) -- One person has died and five people are injured after an SUV carrying six people crashed into a pole at North Avenue and Kenton Avenue early Saturday morning, police confirm.

Police and rescue crews responded to the accident in the Hermosa neighborhood around 4:30 a.m. Chicago police say the vehicle was traveling eastbound on the 4500 block North Avenue when it lost control and struck a light pole.

Two males, 18- and 25-years-old, apparently left the car and walked themselves to West Suburban Hospital for treatment. Four females had to be extricated from the vehicle, according to police. Two women, one 19-year-old and one of unknown age, were taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, one 18-year-old woman was taken to Stroger Hospital, and 24-year-old woman was transported to Norwegian Hospital where she subsequently died.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
