CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 19-year-old mother is dead and two others injured after a shooting at a house party on the city's South Side Friday night.
Police say someone opened fire at the party in the 9300-block of South LaSalle in the Princeton Park neighborhood around 11 p.m. Friday. One of the shots hit Nicole Marie Towns in her side.
Mary Nelson lives right next door to where she heard the shots coming from.
"All of a sudden I heard the shots, so I went to get my grandbaby and my daughter-in-law. I told my son, he was in there, too, 'They're shooting over there,'" she said. "Next thing we knew, they were running out the back door, going down the alley."
Detectives say a man asked to leave the party became angry, pulled out a gun, and then opened fire inside and outside the home as he left.
One of the bullets hit Towns inside the house. Her 3-year-old son will no longer have his mother. She was about to begin a new job Monday.
"I just feel sorry for the lady," said neighbor Shanice Word. "I know she has a kid and it's just crazy."
Police said there were two other people injured in the shooting. A 38-year-old man shot in the shoulder was treated and released from the hospital. A 30-year-old man also suffered a gunshot wound to his side - he's still in serious condition.
Police are still looking for the gunman.
